Bathroom cleaning can be a bit tedious and time-consuming, especially when cleaning is scheduled as seldom as the leap year. Molds, mildews and rings build-up as faster than you can say "bathhouse."
Note that a few regular bathroom maintenance would make your bathroom clean and pristine even without the general cleaning. And even with regularly scheduled general top to bottom cleaning, your bathroom would not be so hard to clean if you conduct the daily basic housekeeping task, which would take only a few minutes of your time each day.
Here are some basic bathroom housekeeping fixes that you can do everyday that would not only make your bathroom clean and pristine but also will prevent the hassle of making the scheduled general cleaning tedious and time-consuming.
Tub
After using the tub, wipe excess water with terry cloth. Make sure to include the faucets. Wipe down the soap suds that will build up mineral stains. When tub is particularly dirty, try using a solution consisting of 10 parts water and one part bleach. Add a cup of vinegar for good measure and wipe the entire tub. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands.
Shower
After taking a shower, wipe the towel walls with a squeegee to take out the soap scum and prevent mineral stains. Close the shower curtain so water would not get stuck in the curtain folds.
Toilet bowl
Use a mixture of bleach and white vinegar to remove toilet rings. First, empty the toilet bowl of water. You may do this using a small cup and just remove the water from the bowl and empty the cup in the drain or in the sink. Using a brush, brush the sides of the bowl using the bleach/vinegar solution. Leave for a few minutes the rinse by flushing.
Sink
After using, wash the sink with bleach and vinegar solution. Wipe the sink, including the faucet with terry cloth to prevent soap scum and mineral buildup. For particularly dirty sink, scrub with the bleach and vinegar solution using a squeegee.
Shower head
Put bleach and vinegar solution in a plastic bag and using a rubber band, attach the bag to the shower faucet. Leave overnight to dissolve minerals and soap scums in the shower faucet. After taking out the plastic bag nxt day, brush the shower head with a toothbrush.
Grout
Oil, soap and minerals builds up rather fast in between tiles. To clean the grout, use bleach/vinegar solution and brush with a toothbrush.
Shower curtains
Wash regularly as you would other garments. If not washable by washing machine, wash by hand using laundry soap and garment brush.
Drain
Hair, oil, soap and other minerals collect in the pipes. To clean up the pipes, mix a solution of 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup white vinegar and pour the solution in th drain. Leave for a few minutes then pour boiling water. This would dissolve dirt and mineral buildup.
Air circulation
Air circulation is very important. Not only does it render your bathroom completely dry, it prevents the proliferation of mildew and bad smell. Fan out the area using an electric fan after major cleaning. Opening the windows would speed up the process.
