Dental problems shouldn't be ignored because they can get serious or indicate more severe underlying medical conditions. Check if you’re suffering from one of the following oral problems.
Tooth pain
If your tooth aches, there's almost certainly a reason, and it usually doesn't lessen or diminish on its own. If you have a tooth that’s sensitive to either hot or cold foods, tell your dentist, even if the discomfort goes away. You need to know why your tooth started aching in the first place, and your dentist is the one who can get to the root of the problem.
Gum changes
Gum disease is a serious condition that can lead to the loss of your teeth. It's also been associated with more severe conditions such as heart disease. Though not all changes in your gums mean you have gum disease, be aware of your gums' health and contact your dentist if you see changes. Look especially for swollen gums that feel spongy, gums that are receding, pulling away from your teeth or undergoing notable changes in colour. Contact your dentist right away if you notice pus or an abnormal odour in the gums.
Lost teeth
Losing your teeth isn’t significantly a part of ageing. If your teeth fall out suddenly, head to the dentist quickly. You might have a bone condition such as osteoporosis or have a gum disease. The sooner you get medication, the more likely you can keep your teeth. And consult with your doctor to prevent more bone loss.
Bad breath
Chronic problems with your breath are more than just cosmetic or social issue. Halitosis (chronic bad breath) can be caused by various dental conditions. Tooth decay and gum disease, for example, can be the source of this irritating problem. Not only that, but bad breath can point to several severe medical conditions. It can be a sign of liver or kidney disease, chronic lung infections, intestinal and diabetes problems. Even a sinus infection can be a cause of bad breath.
Lumps, sores or painful patches
Your mouth should be free of lumps and sores. Even "normal" sores, such as a canker sore, can be an indication of a severe problem. If you notice sores in your mouth, you need to have them checked by your dentist to rule out a severe problem.
