The emergence of a name, the beginning of a glorious history
City Tattersalls Club was founded in 1895 by a group of 20 bookmakers. Unhappy with a judge's decision regarding a race held at Kensington, they lodged an objection over one particular jockey who weighed in with his whip. When the horse that went past the post first was disqualified, and bookmakers refrained from paying out on the second horse, the 20 bookmakers left Tattersalls Club. This signalled the birth of City Tattersalls Club.
Since then, the Club has created its own Act of Parliament, constructed its existing site at 194-204 Pitt Street, and developed state-of-the-art facilities that are attractive, safe, friendly and fully designed for the enjoyment of members and guests.
