Builders Arms Hotel is a landmark public house on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. Offering two distinctive dining areas, the Bistro and Moon Under Water, along with a Public Bar and upstairs Private Dining Room and The Bowery Room.

The Bistro offers an a la carte menu and the counter meal reigns in the Public Bar. Open from midday Monday to Friday and 11am on Saturday and Sunday, with the kitchen open all day. Reservations are taken for lunch and dinner.

The refined dining room, Moon Under Water, presents Andrew McConnell and Josh Murphy’s acclaimed food, providing a three or four course menu along with a six course kitchen menu. Reservations are taken for dinner Thursday to Saturday.

Private parties and events are hosted upstairs in the intimate Private Dining Room, or new events space The Bowery Room for up to 90 guests. Perfect for weddings, celebrations, corporate lunches & dinners.

PAST & PRESENT

The Builders Arms Hotel is a landmark public-house on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. Built in a time of prosperity, it opened in 1853 and has been a meeting place of significance ever since.

Fitzroy was an important commercial zone in the 1850s. Due to its rapidly-growing population 33 new liquor licenses were issued for public houses in the area that decade alone. Through the decade earlier, seven hotels catered for Fitzroy’s population of 600. The Builders Arms Hotel has long been a significant site for Melbourne’s Aboriginal community and is part of the Fitzroy Aboriginal heritage walking trail.
