User experience design, in short, is based around the users experience as they navigate through the web site to achieve their goals by way of the web site functions and design features. UX design focuses on the user and good UXD will allow the user to effortlessly navigate to their intended destination to complete their intended tasks and purpose. This includes making it accessible to more people on many different devices.
To create a great UX the user must be considered at every stage of the design process, who will use the product, why and how will they use the product? Getting the answers to these questions will provide the basis of a great UX design. So practically a lot of assumptions may be made in the beginning of the design process but these need to be verified with testing in the real world with actual users.
