Some four years later the Centre became the Launceston Community Legal and Welfare Rights Services before settling on its current title of Launceston Community Legal Centre Inc. in December 1991.

The LCLC is a 'not for profit' or 'non-profit' association. It is registered ('incorporated') under the Associations & Corporations Act 1964.

We provide FREE legal advice to the most vulnerable in the community. In these difficult financial times, we now are obliged to only assist those who are financially disadvantaged in some way, But for those who are eligible, in the first instance, we provide forty five minute, one off legal advices to Clients, which can include but is not limited to, such matters as wills, power of attorney, debt, contract, consumer rights, boundary fences and restraint orders, employment or unfair dismissal issues, family law issues, welfare rights issues and disability discrimination issues. We also provide guidance to Clients who wish to self litigate.

In addition to the legal practice, the LCLC has been running a pilot program, the Community Legal Literacy Program, which aims to improve document literacy and problem solving in communities by training individuals who are often called upon to help others, whether in the role of a worker, friend or community leader to work through issues before they require legal advice or intervention. The program aims to arm volunteer participants with basic knowledge about the law and legal system, and to inform them of the proper role of a legal intermediary or advocate in the community. The legal literacy program empowers communities to educate individuals and address problems at the early stages, before legal intervention is required. However, it also assists people by referring those that need legal advice to the LCLC free legal service.

The LCLC also provides Community Legal Education and a regular outreach service, one solicitor one day each week, around the Northeast of the State.

The LCLC Board of Management (BoM) is responsible for ensuring that the organisation is well run, follows its aims and objectives, meets its legal and contractual obligations, remains solvent and provides its activities and services to a high standard.
