MSAC has hosted more than 40 international events and welcomes 2.2M+ patrons each year. It features a world-class aquatic arena, state-of-the-art sports courts and stadium, a fully-equipped Fitness Centre and Wellness Zone, a variety of flexible and impressive function spaces and a selection of essential sports medicine and retail providers.

Our History

Designed by Peddle Thorp Architects and built by Baulderstone Hornibrook, MSAC opened its doors in July 1997. The construction was jointly funded by the Victorian State Government and the City of Port Phillip, who wanted to establish a first class sports and aquatic centre to inspire and support the local community to a healthier lifestyle, as well as cement Melbourne’s reputation as a world leader in sports and recreational facilities.

Since its opening, MSAC has held thousands of events ranging from local swimming carnivals and basketball tournaments, through to international events including the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships. In 2006, a new 50m outdoor pool was opened as part of MSAC’s ongoing redevelopment. In 2008, the outdoor pool was upgraded and became the world’s first 50m swimming pool with a moveable floor.
