Staying active, connected, and engaged is an essential part of leading a fulfilling life. At Thorndale Foundation, we are incredibly proud of the vibrant community we have built within our Residential and Leisure, Living, and Life Skills (LLL) programs.
Whether participants are living in one of our supported group homes or joining us remotely, our dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure everyone has access to enriching, fun, and skill-building activities every single day. Here is a look at how our participants are keeping busy, learning new skills, and making lasting memories.
Engaging Activities in Our Supported Group Homes
Our group home environments are designed to be much more than just a place to live; they are vibrant hubs of activity and personal growth. Every day, participants are engaging in a wide variety of activities tailored to their interests and goals.
Thanks to the incredible collaboration between our LLL and Residential staff, participants regularly enjoy:
-
Daily Exercise: Promoting physical health and mental well-being.
-
Cooking Classes: Building essential independent living skills while preparing delicious meals.
-
Arts and Crafts: Encouraging creativity and self-expression.
-
Beauty Therapy: Fostering self-care, relaxation, and confidence.
The Wisteria TikTok Challenge
Our group homes also know how to have a great time and engage with the wider disability support community! Recently, fellow disability service provider NADO issued a TikTok dance-off challenge on Facebook.
The ladies at our Wisteria group home eagerly accepted the challenge, showing off their rhythm and teamwork. You can view their groovy dance moves and see the joy on their faces by visiting the Thorndale Facebook page.
Flexible Leisure, Living, and Life Skills (LLL) Programs
Thorndale’s Leisure, Living, and Life Skills (LLL) programs are at the heart of our day services. To ensure continuous support, our fabulous day program services are currently being held directly within each residential group home. This allows participants to enjoy their daily routines and favorite activities in a familiar, comfortable setting.
We also understand that flexibility is key to inclusive disability support. For participants who do not reside in our group homes but still want to utilize our day programs, we have implemented innovative remote solutions:
-
Personalized Activity Packs: Custom-tailored program materials delivered to participants so they can engage from home.
-
Zoom Day Program Sessions: Interactive, virtual sessions that keep participants connected with their peers and support workers.
Staying Connected Through Virtual Fun
Our virtual sessions have been a massive success, bringing smiles to participants across the community. A recent highlight includes an online ribbon-making and ribbon-dancing session. We highly recommend checking out the short Zoom video clip of this session on our Facebook page—special shoutout to Liz for her fantastic ribbon dancing skills!
Conclusion
At Thorndale Foundation, we believe that high-quality disability support means adapting to the needs of our participants and ensuring they always have access to joy, learning, and community. From viral TikTok dance challenges to virtual crafts and daily group home activities, we remain committed to empowering every individual we support.
