Thermal HRC is Thinking Paint’s 15-Year Roof Protect membrane with heat-reflective technology. It is supplied in 15-litre drums and covers about 6 m² per litre. A 200 m² metal or tile roof needs roughly 67 litres (about five drums) for two coats, plus the matched primer. The current drum price is not listed on the site; request a quote for the exact cost and delivery.
Thermal HRC is the product that answers a heat-reflective roof paint cost search. It is the 15-Year Roof Protect membrane with thermal heat-reflective technology, sold in 15-litre drums. Coverage is about 6 square metres per litre. The drum price changes with colour and stock, so the figure you need comes from a quote, not a fixed online list.
How many 15-litre drums does a typical roof need?
Measure the roof first, then divide by coverage. For two coats at 6 m² per litre, a 200 m² roof needs about 67 litres. That is five 15-litre drums of Thermal HRC, with a small margin for edges and waste. A 150 m² roof needs about 50 litres (four drums). A 250 m² roof needs about 83 litres (six drums).
Use the Thinking Paint calculator to enter your measured area and get the exact drum count for Thermal HRC plus the matched primer. It applies the 6 m² per litre coverage and two-coat requirement so the order is not short. The steps in How to Measure Your Roof for Paint show how to get the area from the ground if you do not already have it.
| Roof area (two coats) | Litres at 6 m²/L | 15 L drums |
|---|---|---|
| 150 m² | ~50 L | 4 |
| 200 m² | ~67 L | 5 |
| 250 m² | ~83 L | 6 |
These are product quantities only. They do not include the primer or any ridge work. Run the calculator before you request the quote so the drum count and the primer are both in the order.
Which primer is required under Thermal HRC?
Thermal HRC goes over a primed surface. The primer is chosen from the roof you have, not from the colour of the membrane.
- Sound metal or Colorbond: Metal Primer Plus
- Active rust at screws or cut edges: Rust Inhibitor Primer first, then Metal Primer Plus on the sound sheet
- Bare or chalky concrete tile: Oz Primer
- Sound existing tile coat: Platinum Primer
- Terracotta: Terracotta Primer
Metal Primer Plus covers about 9 m² per litre. Oz Primer and Platinum Primer are applied at the rates on their product pages. Add the primer cost to the Thermal HRC drums when you request the quote. Do not skip the primer. A heat-reflective membrane that is not bonded will lift in the first wet season.
How does the Thinking Paint Roof Protection Method price a heat-reflective job?
The method prices the system, not the topcoat alone. Confirm the surface, remove any loose film, apply the matched primer, then two coats of Thermal HRC at the stated film build. The 15-year warranty applies when that sequence is followed by an accredited applicator.
We supplied these systems for 20 years, with 3-business-day delivery inside the service area. Jobs that need heavy chemical freight outside that area are out of scope.
Does the heat-reflective technology change the coverage or warranty?
[caption id="attachment_2808" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
No. Thermal HRC uses the same 15-year Roof Protect membrane and the same ~6 m² per litre coverage. The heat-reflective pigments are in the film. They do not change the drum size or the two-coat requirement. For storm-season checks after the coating is on, see How Often Should I Check My Roof for Storm Readiness?.[/caption]
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the price of a 15-litre drum of heat-reflective roof paint?
A: Thermal HRC is supplied in 15-litre drums. The current price depends on colour and stock. Call 0400 537 399 or use the quote form for the drum price and the primer that matches your roof.
Q: How many drums do I need for a 200 m² roof?
A: At about 6 m² per litre and two coats, a 200 m² roof needs roughly 67 litres. That is five 15-litre drums of Thermal HRC, plus the matched primer. Use the calculator with your measured area so the order is not short.
Q: Is Thermal HRC the same as standard 15-Year Roof Protect?
A: It is the same 15-Year Roof Protect membrane with heat-reflective technology added. Coverage, drum size and warranty length are the same. The difference is the reflective pigments that reduce heat transfer into the building.
Q: Do I still need primer under heat-reflective paint?
A: Yes. Sound metal needs Metal Primer Plus. Active rust needs Rust Inhibitor Primer first. Concrete tile needs Oz Primer or Platinum Primer. The membrane will not hold on an unprimed surface.
Q: Can I get Thermal HRC delivered locally?
A: Yes. Thinking Paint delivers in 3 business days inside the service area. Confirm stock and the primer with the quote form before you start prep.
