In plenty of workplaces, the last week of October goes the same way. One person purchases the grazing board, some people choose to dress up, and by five o’clock the familiar faces take their usual spots. Office Halloween parties might be good-natured, but seldom do they alter the dynamics between people.
Escape room team building presents a new kind of Halloween experience - one hour, one locked room, and one problem that cannot be solved alone. At The Great Escape on Lyttleton Terrace in central Bendigo, that problem can come wrapped in a horror story.
Why the Standard Halloween Work Event Falls Flat
A party encourages mixing, and mixing favors those who have been able to mix easily before. Those who talk well dominate, while the one just starting his conversation hangs around the drinks table. The co-worker who hates dress-up parties sneaks out at fifteen minutes past five. Everyone is doing nothing wrong; the party ends up confirming what was already socially known.
An office Halloween party also doesn’t have a common goal. There is nothing to work out together, and the quiet analyst never gets to spot what everyone else missed. Next morning, the main topic is who wore the best costume. If you are responsible for team building in Bendigo, that is a lot of goodwill spent on very little.
What Changes When the Door Closes
An escape room swaps small talk for a deadline. Each game runs for 60 minutes, and the clock gives everyone a reason to speak up. Roles form fast, usually without anyone assigning them. One person reads every scrap of paper while another works through combinations on a padlock.
That is what makesescape room team building useful to a manager. You see how people share information under mild pressure and who notices when a teammate has gone quiet. The way good rooms are designed means that the answers are spread out, so no one individual has all the answers, making it necessary for the team to communicate. The game master is observing and provides hints. The hour stays hard without tipping into frustration.
The Orphanage and the Case for a Little Fear
For Halloween team building in Bendigo, The Orphanage is the obvious room to book. The venue rates it 5/5 for both difficulty and Fear Factor, the top of its scale. Uneasy townsfolk send your team into Heaven's Step, an orphanage with an ordinary front and a dark reputation. You need to figure out what’s going on with the kids and take them out without being detected.
Fans of the room who have seen it state that the horror element does not come from jump scares; it is conveyed through storytelling and the set. They have also appreciated the logic of its puzzles. Multiple strands are going on at once, which allows for different members of the group to split up and gather information. Just enough horror focuses your mind, but it also gauges your composure.
When Some Colleagues Prefer Fewer Scares
Everyone does not love the genre of horror, and Halloween team building should not be viewed as an endurance test. Ask the members of your team before booking the session. The fear factor is calculated in every room; thus, people will get to know what they are getting into, and the game master will narrate the story before time starts ticking. Compare finishing times afterwards. A bit of rivalry between rooms often gives the debrief more energy than a single shared game.
Booking a Halloween Session on Lyttleton Terrace
The success of team building activities in Bendigo will in part depend on the accessibility of the venue. The Great Escape can be found at 155a Lyttleton Terrace, which is conveniently located near most CBD workplaces as well as Kangaroo Flat, Strathfieldsaye and Eaglehawk. It stays open until 10:30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, which gives participants plenty of time to wrap up their workday, have some fun, and make it back home in time. For the Halloween team building activity, allow around 75 minutes.
Each room takes up to eight players. For escape room team building with a larger group, ask about a large group booking or a multi-room challenge. Weekends book out fastest, so check session times for escape rooms in Bendigo once your date is set. A Thursday session in the last week of October, followed by dinner in town, is an easy plan to put to the team. It also leaves people with something better to remember than another office Halloween party.
FAQs
1. Why choose an escape room over a typical Halloween office party for team building?
The reason is that escape room team-building involves having a common objective to achieve within 60 minutes. The office party depends on interactions which will benefit extroverted people only.
2. Can a horror-themed room work for a team building event?
Yes. Slight fear makes people concentrate and demonstrate how they deal with stress. It is better to agree on that earlier and see the Fear Factor value, as well as offer others to try a different room.
3. How many colleagues can join a Halloween-themed team building session?
The Orphanage, The Great Escape Bendigo's horror room, takes up to eight players. Groups larger than eight can arrange a multi-room challenge and play different rooms at the same time.
