When to go

One of the first questions you'll need to answer is when you want to go. One of the best times to hike in Arizona is from April through October. The heat becomes more tolerable during these months, and the chances for snow are minimal. You can get a good idea of what it will be like on a particular day by checking with your local weather service or doing an online search for average temperatures in that area. Since most of us have day jobs, we recommend going on vacation during one of these off-peak times so you don't interfere with your work schedule. Where to stay

We recommend staying at the Grand Canyon Lodge or Mather Campground. The Grand Canyon Lodge is on the North Rim, and Mather Campground is situated on the Arizona side of the canyon. There are also camping facilities at Desert View on the South Rim. You can also stay at a hotel in Tusayan which is only a 20-minute drive from the North or South Rim.

Lodging

If you're looking for lodging, there are several places to stay near the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Village is one of the most popular lodging locations, and it's just a few miles from the South Rim entrance. You can also find many hotels in nearby Tusayan, or if you want to stay further away, there are many lodging accommodations in Williams.

Camping

If you're planning on camping, it's important to make sure you have everything you'll need. If you are thinking about going camping with friends, family members, or a partner, be sure to discuss what will happen if someone gets hurt while camping. You might want to make sure that there is a first-aid kit in your car and that everyone knows how to use it before you start your journey. Trail difficulty levels and types

This is the time to pick your trail difficulty level and type. The Grand Canyon has a variety of trails, from those with paved surfaces for wheelchairs and strollers to rugged and rocky trails. There are also day hikes and overnight backpacking trips. The park has three ranger districts: North Rim, South Rim, and West Rim. Generally, the most popular hiking destination is the South Rim, but it can be more crowded than other areas of the park. The elevation ranges from 2,600 feet at the Colorado River up to 8200 feet at Yumtheska Peak on the North Rim. It's best to hike during cooler parts of the day (morning or evening) to adjust to high altitudes or heat exhaustion.
